Remote printer connectivity with MOAP.

With MOAP many different types of remote printers can be connected to the Siemens BS2000 mainframes, even when these printer types are unknown to spool systems like RSO and TDSPOOL. So the use of printers has been made possible, even when these printers don't support Hewlett-Packard's PCL language. And the use of special characters like in many European languages isn't a problem anymore, as was the case for Univé Verzekeringen with that accent on the letter e.

Component technology.

MOAP is a collection of some components. The least impressive are the run-time components on the mainframe and the printserver. The run-time component on the mainframe puts itself between the user or the user application and the spool system. It takes care for the translation of standard BS2000 spool and printer control information to generalized printer control information. This component is controllable by interfaces for the user, for the job control language of BS2000 and for transaction processing monitors.

The run-time component on the printserver takes care for the translation of the generalized printer control information to the printer specific control information. This component is because of the available resources in printservers made as compact as possible. Just some kilobytes memory suffice.

The least used but most valued component is the user interface dedicated to the maintenance of the database, with which MOAP's activities are controlled. Obviously this has been build with the use of DP2. The structured and simple architecture is a result of DP2's use. This offers the user a simplified way to specify all characteristics of his printers, printer types and processing to be done. More isn't needed to let MOAP process your print data, resulting in perfect output.
